Parcel pick-up point app is ready and launched in Shopify app store

For the past six months, we have been actively working on our new Shopify app, and today our efforts finally paid off. Parcely is public on the Shopify App Store and merchants can start actively using the app. The goal was to launch the app in the official Shopify app ecosystem and not offer it without Shopify's control.


Making life easier for users and merchants

Shopify has significantly limited the programming options in the checkout view, which is why, for example, in delivery modules, the location selection can only be displayed as a drop-down menu.

Merchants who use the Shopify platform to run their e-commerce store have used various ingenious ways to find out the exact location of a parcel locker from their customers. However, all existing solutions are either inconvenient for the customer or inaccurate for the merchant.

The main goal of the Parcely app is to alleviate this problem and make choosing a parcel machine location as convenient as possible for Shopify e-store users. We are still actively working towards this goal and are developing additional functionality for the App and continuously integrating service providers.

We decided to put our solution in the shopping cart, or Cart view, then we can offer the user a much more convenient delivery option due to the specifics of the platform. In this view, Shopify has given the developer a lot of freedom.

We also got around Shopify's rule that limits each monthly payment to Basic plan users can use Shopify's external shipping modules. Thanks to this, the Parcely app can be used with any Shopify plan and payment plan.

The main limitations of Parcely are moving directly from the product view to the checkout view and the lack of weight-based delivery prices. Using the app, you can only define a fixed price for different parcel locker delivery service providers regardless of product type or weight. It is also not yet possible to limit parcel locker delivery based on product.

Interfaced services

In the first stage, we interfaced:

  • Omniva Estonian parcel machines
  • Omniva Latvia parcel machines
  • Omniva Lithuania parcel machines
  • Itella Smartpost Estonian parcel machines
  • Posti Finland parcel machines
  • Omniva Estonian post offices
  • Posti Finland post offices

We initially made all interfaces one-way, meaning we update the locations of the service providers' parcel lockers once a day, but successful orders are not yet automatically sent back to the delivery providers' systems.

In the future, we also plan to develop order interfaces with all service providers to make merchants' lives a little easier.

The next update will add

With the APP version update in October, we will add even more suppliers to the parcel lockers.

We are also making several improvements to the APP user interface, such as IP-based country identification, searching the list of parcel lockers, and more convenient sorting of the list.
